Steering Columns: Description

Vehicles are equipped with an energy-absorbing type steering column. The column is divided by a universal joint connection which is designed to separate or collapse on collision impact, thus taking impact energy away from the upper portion of the steering column. At the bottom end, the steering column is connected to the pinion flange through a flexible coupling.
