Ground Circuit

  1. Locate ignition control unit on upper left firewall. Turn ignition off. Connect negative lead of ohmmeter to ground. Using positive lead, check for continuity between ECU terminal No. 13 (Black wire) and ground. Resistance should be zero ohms. If resistance is not zero ohms, repair open to ground. Harness grounding point is located at rear of engine on a sheet metal bracket or on thermostat housing.
  2. Connect negative lead of DVOM to a good ground. Backprobe ECU terminal No. 13 (Black wire). With vehicle running, DVOM should indicate less than one volt. If voltage is more than one volt, check for open, corrosion and loose connection on ground lead.
