DTC P0442: EVAP System Small Leak Detected

NOTE: Performing this diagnostic test requires use of Kent-Moore EVAP system pressurizing equipment SST No. J41413, an ultrasonic leak detector and installation of a pressure service port at EVAP system purge valve (if not already equipped with one).
NOTE: Ultrasonic leak detector is susceptible to other shop noises and can give false indications of a leak. It is advisable to reduce any shop noises during this procedure to ensure accurate test results.
  1. Connect Kent-Moore SST J41413 to EVAP system service port. Ensure that fuel filler cap is tightly installed. Connect TECH 2 scan tool to DLC. Turn ignition on. Select ACTIVATE: SHUT-OFF VALVE. Following Kent-Moore instruction manual, pressurize EVAP system and perform system leakage test. If a leak is detected, disconnect vacuum hose from intake manifold at purge valve. Pressurize system further as per Kent-Moore instruction manual. Using ultrasonic leak detector, inspect all EVAP system components and hoses for leaks. Repair as necessary. Go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on. Use scan tool to clear TRIONIC T-5 DTCs and select ACTIVATE: EVAP DIAGNOSIS. If leak is indicated, recheck all EVAP components, including those installed at top of fuel tank. If no leaks are found, Allow vehicle to cool down. Perform COLD START DIAGNOSIS scan tool function, then recheck for any stored DTCs. If DTC P0442 is present, substitute known good ECM and retest system. See ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) under COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS in REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article.
