Adjust/check the kickdown function.

  1. Remove the resonator.
  2. Depress the pedal (using a pedal clamp if necessary) so that it just reaches down to the kickdown switch. Make sure it moves freely all the way down to the kickdown switch. If it does not, the accelerator cable may be incorrectly adjusted.
  3. Make sure the throttle is now fully open. If not, adjust the accelerator cable ferrule.
    NOTE: To obtain a "kickdown feeling", continued pressure on the pedal is taken up by a spring in the accelerator cable.
  4. Release the accelerator pedal and check to see that the accelerator cable is slightly slack. If it is not, remove the bottom of the dashboard and adjust the set screw on the top of the pedal so that there is a small amount of slack.
  5. Start the car and check the idling speed.
  6. Fit the bottom of the dashboard.
  7. Fit the resonator.
    IMPORTANT: Check the throttle position with the diagnostic tool after adjustment.
