Basic Diagnostic Procedure: Engine
CHECK ENGINE START FAILURE.
Ask the customer when and how the trouble occurred using the check list for interview.
Start the engine.
Does the engine start?
YES . Problem does not exist.
NO
Inspection using "Diagnostics for Engine Start Failure".
CHECK ILLUMINATION OF MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT.
Does malfunction indicator light illuminate?
YES. Go to next step.
NO
Inspect using "General Diagnostics Table".
CHECK INDICATION OF DTC ON DISPLAY.
Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Interface or the OBD-II general scan tool to data link connector.
Turn the ignition switch to ON and the Vehicle Diagnostic Interface or OBD-II general scan tool switch to ON.
Read the DTC on the Vehicle Diagnostic Interface or OBD-II general scan tool.
Does the Vehicle Diagnostic Interface or OBD-II general scan tool indicate DTC?
YES
Record the DTC. Repair the trouble cause.
NO
- Repair the related parts.
PERFORM THE DIAGNOSIS.
Perform the clear memory mode.
Perform the inspection mode.
Does the Vehicle Diagnostic Interface or OBD-II general scan tool indicate DTC?
YES
- Inspect using "Diagnostics Procedure with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)".
NO
Complete the diagnosis.
