Code 41 - Vehicle Speed Sensor Input Not Present: Description
When vehicle speed is greater than 3 MPH, Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) produces 16 electrical pulses per turbine shaft revolution. PCM detects vehicle speed by counting pulses from VSS. PCM sets code 41 if VSS input is zero, turbine speed is greater than 1400 RPM and throttle is held at a moderate opening.
NOTE:
Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.
- This step checks if code is still present.
- This step checks if a wiring or sensor problem is present. If not, PCM may be faulty.
- This step checks for a bad sensor.
- This step checks each circuit for short or ground condition.
