Code 46 - Selector Switch Incorrect Data: Description

The selector switch uses 4 switches to signal PCM which gear position has been selected. See SELECTOR SWITCH POSITION TABLE (CODE 46) . If at least one circuit signal is open or closed at an incorrect time, PCM will set code 46.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.

This step checks if code 46 is still present.
On 1991 vehicles, go to next step. On 1992 vehicles, this step checks for a grounded or invalid input signal.
This step checks selector switch for being grounded in all positions or faulty switch.
This step checks for 2 circuits being grounded or faulty switch.
Check for open circuits by checking each terminal at selector switch for 12 volts.
