Code 49 - Selector Switch Incorrect Data (1992): Description
The selector switch uses 4 switches to signal PCM which gear position has been selected. See SELECTOR SWITCH POSITION TABLE (CODE 49) . If at least one circuit signal is open or closed at an incorrect time, PCM will set code 49.
NOTE:
Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.
- This step checks if code 49 is still present.
- If switch or control cable is misadjusted, PCM may set code 45.
- This step checks selector switch for being grounded in all positions or faulty switch.
- This step checks for an open circuit.
- Check for open circuit by checking each terminal at selector switch for 12 volts.
- This step checks for any circuits being shorted to voltage.
