Cruise Control Inoperative
- Plug in Cruise Control/Cluster Tester. Turn cruise switch off. Release brake pedal. Place cruise tester in SHOP MODE position. Turn ignition on, engine off. Press initialize button on tester.
- Observe speedometer. If speedometer does not read 60 MPH, check for opens or shorts in circuit No. 817C (Dark Green/White wire), circuit No. 817A (Dark Green/White wire), circuit No. 817EE (Dark Green/White wire), and circuit No. 817E (Dark Green/White wire). Repair and/or replace as needed.
- If speedometer does read 60 MPH, verify if IGN/GND LED is on. If IGN/GND LED is off, check for opens or shorts in cruise 5-amp minifuse, circuit No. 350C (Pink/White wire), and ground circuits 153E, 153Y, and 153Z (located at instrument panel). Repair and/or replace as needed.
- If IGN/GND LED is on, verify if Brake/Clutch LED is on. If Brake/Clutch LED is off, check for opens or shorts in circuit 350A (Pink/White wire), circuit No. 86A (Brown wire), circuit No. 379 (Brown/White wire), and circuit No. 86C (Brown wire). Repair circuits as needed. Check brake/clutch switch adjustment or replace switch if needed.
- If Brake/Clutch LED is on, turn cruise control ON/OFF switch to ON position. Verify if ON/OFF LED is on. If ON/OFF LED is off, check circuit No. 350 (Pink/White wire) and circuit No. 397 (Gray wire). Repair wiring as needed. Check operation of slip ring assembly and cruise control switch. Repair or replace as needed.
- If ON/OFF LED is on, press and hold SET/COAST switch for one second. Verify SET/COAST LED is on while switch is pressed. If SET/COAST LED is off, check circuit No. 1631 (Dark Blue/White wire). Repair wire as needed. Check operation of slip ring assembly and cruise control switch. Repair and replace as needed.
- As SET/COAST switch is held for one second, verify that accelerator pedal moved to half throttle. If accelerator pedal did not move to half throttle, check cruise control cable attachment to accelerator cable and adjustment of cruise control cable. Replace or adjust cable as needed. Check cruise control module.
- If accelerator pedal moved to half throttle, depress and hold brake pedal. Verify that accelerator pedal returned to idle position. If accelerator pedal did not return to idle position, check cruise control cable attachment to accelerator cable and adjustment of cruise control cable. Replace or adjust cable as needed. Check cruise control module.
- If accelerator pedal did return to idle position, verify that Brake/Clutch LED is off when brake pedal is depressed. If Brake/Clutch LED is on, check operation of brake switch. Adjust and/or replace switch as needed.
- If Brake/Clutch LED is off, release brake pedal. On M/T models, depress and hold clutch pedal. Verify Brake/Clutch LED is off while clutch pedal is depressed. If Brake/Clutch LED is on, check operation of clutch switch. Adjust and/or replace as needed. Release clutch pedal.
- On all models, press and hold RESUME/ACCEL switch for one second. Verify that RESUME/ACCEL LED is on while switch is depressed. If RESUME/ACCEL LED is off, check operation of cruise slip rings. Replace as needed.
- If RESUME/ACCEL LED is on, verify that accelerator pedal moved to half throttle. If accelerator did not move to half throttle, check cruise cable attachment to accelerator cable and adjustment of cruise control cable. Replace or adjust cable as needed. Check cruise control module.
- If accelerator moved to half throttle, depress and hold brake pedal. Verify that accelerator pedal returns to idle position. If accelerator does not return to idle position, check cruise cable attachment to accelerator cable and adjustment of cruise control cable. Replace or adjust cable as needed. Check cruise control module.
- If accelerator returns to idle position, press RESUME/ACCEL switch and hold for 10 seconds while observing accelerator pedal. If accelerator pedal does not move, check cruise cable attachment to accelerator cable and adjustment of cruise control cable. Replace or adjust cable as needed. Check cruise control module.
- If accelerator pedal moved slowly to full throttle, press SET/COAST switch and hold for 10 seconds while observing accelerator pedal. Accelerator pedal should return slowly to idle position.
- If accelerator does not return slowly to idle position, check cruise cable attachment to accelerator cable and adjustment of cruise control cable. Replace or adjust cable as needed. Check cruise control module. If accelerator pedal returns slowly to idle position, go to INTERMITTENT CRUISE OPERATION.
