Test B: Cruise Control Does Not Set
- Visually check cruise control cable for proper adjustment. See CRUISE CONTROL CABLE under ADJUSTMENTS. Adjust cruise control cable if necessary. After adjustment, check system for normal operation. If adjustment is okay, go to next step.
- Disconnect cruise control module harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DVOM connected to ground, measure voltage at cruise control module harness connector terminal "F" (Pink wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 4 .
- Using DVOM, measure voltage between cruise control module harness connector terminals "E" (Black/White wire) and "F" (Pink wire). If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 5 . If battery voltage exists, go to step 6 .
- Check for open in Pink wire between cruise control module harness connector terminal "F" and BCM/ECM/CRUISE/ABS fuse (10-amp) in underhood fuse block. Repair Pink wire as necessary. If wire is okay, repair harness connections as necessary. After repair, check system for normal operation.
- Check for open in Black/White wire between cruise control module harness connector terminal "E" and ground. Repair Black/White wire as necessary. If wire is okay, repair harness connections as necessary. After repair, check system for normal operation.
- Turn cruise control ON/OFF switch to ON position. Using DVOM connected to ground, measure voltage at cruise control module harness connector terminal "A" (Gray wire). If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, go to step 8 .
- Check for open in Gray wire between cruise control module harness connector terminal "A" and steering column roll connector terminal "D". Repair Gray wire as necessary. If wire is okay, repair harness connections as necessary. After repair, check system for normal operation.
- Press and hold SET/COAST switch. Using DVOM connected to ground, measure voltage at cruise control module harness connector terminal "A" (Gray wire). If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, go to step 10 .
- Check for open in Dark Blue wire between cruise control module harness connector terminal "B" and steering column roll connector terminal "B". See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair Dark Blue wire as necessary. If wire is okay, repair harness connections as necessary. After repair, check system for normal operation.
- Using DVOM connected to ground, measure voltage at cruise control module harness connector terminal "D" (Brown wire). If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, go to step 12 .
- Check for open in Brown wire between cruise control module harness connector terminal "D" and cruise brake (release) switch harness connector terminal No. 2. Repair Brown wire as necessary. If wire is okay, replace cruise brake (release) switch. See BRAKELIGHT SWITCH & CRUISE BRAKE (RELEASE) SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, check system for normal operation.
- Following manufacturer's instructions, connect GM Tech II scan tool. Command CRUISE ENABLE YES. Using test light connected to battery voltage, probe cruise control module harness connector terminal "H" (Dark Green wire). If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, leave test light connected and go to step 14 .
- Check for open in Dark Green wire between cruise control module harness connector terminal "H" and PCM harness connector J2 terminal No. 45. Repair Dark Green wire as necessary. If wire is okay, repair harness connections as necessary. After repair, check system for normal operation.
- Using scan tool, command CRUISE ENABLE NO. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step 16 .
- Repair short to ground in Dark Green wire between cruise control module harness connector terminal "H" and PCM harness connector J2 terminal No. 45. After repair, check system for normal operation.
- Using scan tool, command VEHICLE SPEED OUTPUT OFF. Using DVOM connected to battery voltage, measure voltage at cruise control module harness connector terminal "K" (Dark Green/White wire). If voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage does not exist, leave DVOM connected and go to step 18 .
- Repair short to ground in Dark Green/White wire between cruise control module harness connector terminal "K" and PCM harness connector J2 terminal No. 16. After repair, check system for normal operation.
- Using scan tool, command VEHICLE SPEED OUTPUT ON. If DVOM indicates no voltage, go to next step. If voltage is indicated, go to step 20 .
- Check for open in Dark Green/White wire between cruise control module harness connector terminal "K" and PCM harness connector J2 terminal No. 16. Repair Dark Green/White wire as necessary. If wire is okay, repair harness connections as necessary. After repair, check system for normal operation.
- If vehicle is equipped with M/T, go to next step. If vehicle is equipped with A/T, check all harness connections for tightness or connector damage. Repair connections as necessary. After repair, check system for normal operation.
- Using scan tool, observe CRUISE BRAKE/CLUTCH INPUT. Press and release clutch pedal. If scan tool display cycles between APPLIED and RELEASED, go to next step. If scan tool does not cycle between APPLIED and RELEASED, go to step 23 .
- Check for poor connections and/or connector damage at cruise control module harness connector. Repair as necessary. After repair, check system for normal operation.
- If scan tool always displays APPLIED, go to next step. If scan tool does not always display APPLIED, go to step 27 .
- Disconnect cruise clutch (release) switch harness connector. Connect a fused jumper wire between battery voltage and cruise clutch (release) switch harness connector terminal No. 2 (Brown/White wire). If scan tool display cycles from APPLIED to RELEASED, go to next step. If scan tool display remains APPLIED, go to step 26 .
- Check for open in Orange wire between cruise clutch (release) switch harness connector terminal No. 1 and BRAKE fuse (15-amp) in underhood fuse block. Repair Orange wire as necessary. If wire is okay, repair harness connections as necessary. After repair, check system for normal operation.
- Check for open in Brown/White wire between cruise clutch (release) switch harness connector terminal No. 2 and PCM harness connector J1 terminal No. 35. Repair Brown/White wire as necessary. If wire is okay, repair harness connections as necessary. After repair, check system for normal operation.
- Disconnect cruise clutch (release) switch harness connector. If scan tool does not display APPLIED, go to next step. If scan tool displays APPLIED, go to step 29 .
- Repair short to voltage in Brown/White wire between cruise clutch (release) switch harness connector terminal No. 2 and PCM harness connector J1 terminal No. 35. After repair, check system for normal operation.
- Replace cruise clutch (release) switch. See CRUISE CLUTCH (RELEASE) SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, check system for normal operation.
