Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Perform On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system check. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD system check, go to next step.
  2. Start engine. Using scan tool, check if this DTC failed this ignition. If this DTC failed this ignition, go to next step. If this DTC did not fail this ignition, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
  3. Monitor RPM on scan tool on initial start-up. If RPM increases by several thousands, then return to normal, check CKP sensor harness routing. Ensure they are away from battery cables or generator. If RPM does not increase by several thousand, then return to normal, check CKP sensor harness connector terminals and ignition module ground. Repair as necessary.
