Fuel Sender Assembly: Installation

NOTE: Fuel pump assembly is only serviced as a module without the sender unit. Inlet filter cannot be replaced. clean with mineral spirits only. Always replace fuel pump module seal. Correct seal is Green. DO NOT use old-style Black seal.
  1. Verify that float arm on fuel level sender has not been bent. To check, position fuel pump module in upright position on a flat horizontal surface. Using a 5/32" drill bit, measure distance from surface to bottom of the float. Drill bit must pass freely with no more than 1/16" clearance. Position fuel pump module on fuel tank. Install fuel pump module retaining lock ring using Fuel Tank Lock Ring Remover (SA9156E).
  2. Connect fuel feed lines and harness connector. Install fuel tank. Add fuel to fuel tank. Install fuel tank filler cap. Connect negative battery cable.
  3. Perform the following procedure in order to inspect for leaks. Turn ignition on for 2 seconds. Turn ignition on for 10 seconds. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Inspect for fuel leaks.
