Removal & Installation (2.4L)

- The Ignition Control Module (ICM) is located in a housing, attached inside the camshaft housing. See Figure. Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove the accelerator cable from the hold down clip. Remove the cruise control cable (if equipped). Remove the bolt from the fuel line retainer clip. Disconnect the 11-pin harness connector to the ICM. Remove camshaft housing bolts.
- Remove ICM screws. Remove ICM. Disconnect the coil harness connector from the ICM. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten retaining screws to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
CAUTION:
Spark plug boots often adhere to the spark plugs. Use Spark Plug Removal Tool (J 36011) in order to remove boots by first twisting and then pulling upward on retainers. Reinstall the boots and the retainers on the ignition coil housing secondary terminals. The boots and the retainers must be in place on the ignition coil housing secondary terminals prior to the ignition coil and the electronic ICM assembly installation or ignition control system damage may result.
