Inspection Procedure

  1. INSPECT ECM(+B VOLTAGE) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    2. Measure the voltage between the specified terminals of the E3 and E6 ECM connectors.

      Standard: 

      E3 AND E6 ECM CONNECTORS SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      +B (E3-1) - E1 (E6-7) 9 to 14 V
    1. OK : REPLACE ECM (See )

    2. NG : Go to next step. 
  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR(ECM - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the E6 ECM connector.
    2. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard (Check for open): 

      ECM - BODY GROUND SPECIFIED CONDITION (CHECK FOR OPEN)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E1 (E6-7) - Body ground Below 1 Ω
    3. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    1. NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    2. OK : Go to next step. 
  3. INSPECT IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the I10 ignition switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance between the connector terminals shown in the chart below.
      IGNITION SWITCH SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Switch Position Tester Connection Specified Condition
      LOCK All Terminals 10 kΩ or higher
      ACC 1-3 Below 1 Ω
      ON 1-2, 1-3, 2-3, 5-6 Below 1 Ω
      START 4-5, 4-6, 5-6, 1-2 Below 1 Ω
    3. Reconnect the ignition switch connector.

    1. NG : REPLACE IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSY 
    2. OK : Go to next step. 
  4. CHECK FUSE(EFI FUSE) 
    1. Remove the EFI fuse from the engine room R/B.
    2. Check for continuity in the EFI fuse.

      Standard: Continuity 

    3. Reinstall the EFI fuse.
    1. NG : CHECK FOR SHORT IN ALL HARNESSES AND COMPONENTS CONNECTED FUSE

    2. OK : Go to next step. 
  5. INSPECT EFI RELAY 
    1. Remove the EFI relay from the engine room R/B.
    2. Inspect the EFI relay.

      Standard:: 

      EFI RELAY SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      1 - 2 Below 1 Ω
      3 - 5 10 kΩ or higher
      Below 1 Ω (Apply battery voltage to terminals 1 and 2)
    3. Reinstall the EFI relay.
    1. NG : REPLACE EFI RELAY

    2. OK : Go to next step. 
  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR(EFI RELAY - ECM, EFI RELAY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Check the harness and connector between the EFI relay and ECM connector.
      1. Remove the EFI relay from the engine room R/B.
      2. Disconnect the E3 ECM connector.
      3. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

        Standard (Check for open): 

        EFI RELAY - ECM SPECIFIED CONDITION (CHECK FOR OPEN)

        Tester Connection Specified Condition
        EFI relay (3) - +B (E3-1) Below 1 Ω

        Standard (Check for short): 

        EFI RELAY - ECM SPECIFIED CONDITION (CHECK FOR SHORT)

        Tester Connection Specified Condition
        EFI relay (3) or +B (E3-1) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      4. Reinstall the EFI relay.
      5. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    2. Check the harness and connector between the EFI relay and body ground.
      1. Remove the EFI relay from the engine room R/B.
      2. Check for continuity between the wire harness side connector and body ground.

        Standard (Check for open): 

        EFI RELAY - BODY GROUND SPECIFIED CONDITION (CHECK FOR OPEN)

        Tester Connection Specified Condition
        EFI relay (2) - Body ground Below 1 Ω
      3. Reinstall the EFI relay.
    1. NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK : Go to next step. 
  7. CHECK FUSE(AM2 FUSE) 
    1. Remove the AM2 fuse from the engine room R/B.
    2. Check for continuity in the AM2 fuse.

      Standard: Continuity 

    3. Reinstall the AM2 fuse.
    1. NG : CHECK FOR SHORT IN ALL HARNESSES AND COMPONENTS CONNECTED FUSE

    2. OK : Go to next step. 
  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR(EFI RELAY - EFI FUSE) 
    1. Remove the EFI relay from the engine room R/B.
    2. Remove the EFI fuse from the engine room R/B.
    3. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard (Check for open): 

      EFI RELAY - EFI FUSE SPECIFIED CONDITION (CHECK FOR OPEN)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      EFI relay (5) - EFI fuse (2) Below 1 Ω

      Standard (Check for short): 

      EFI RELAY - EFI FUSE SPECIFIED CONDITION (CHECK FOR SHORT)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      EFI relay (5) - EFI fuse (2) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reinstall the EFI relay.
    5. Reinstall the EFI fuse.
    1. NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    2. OK : Go to next step. 
  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR(EFI RELAY - IGNITION SWITCH) 
    1. Remove the EFI relay from the engine room R/B.
    2. Disconnect the I10 ignition switch connector.
    3. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard (Check for open): 

      EFI RELAY - IGNITION SWITCH SPECIFIED CONDITION (CHECK FOR OPEN)

      Symbols (Terminal No.) Specified condition
      IG2 (I10-6) - EFI relay (1) Below 1 Ω

      Standard (Check for short): 

      EFI RELAY - IGNITION SWITCH SPECIFIED CONDITION (CHECK FOR SHORT)

      Symbols (Terminal No.) Specified condition
      IG2 (I10-6) or EFI relay (1) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    4. Reinstall the EFI relay.
    5. Reconnect the ignition switch connector.
    1. NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    2. OK : Go to next step. 
  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR(IGNITION SWITCH - AM2 FUSE) 
    1. Disconnect the I10 ignition switch connector.
    2. Remove the AM2 fuse from the engine room R/B.
    3. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard (Check for open): 

      IGNITION SWITCH - AM2 FUSE SPECIFIED CONDITION (CHECK FOR OPEN)

      Symbols (Terminal No.) Specified condition
      AM2 (I10-5) - AM2 fuse (2) Below 1 Ω

      Standard (Check for short): 

      IGNITION SWITCH - AM2 FUSE SPECIFIED CONDITION (CHECK FOR SHORT)

      Symbols (Terminal No.) Specified condition
      AM2 (I10-5) - AM2 fuse (2) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    4. Reconnect the ignition switch connector.
    5. Reinstall the AM2 fuse.
    1. NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    2. OK : CHECK AND REPAIR HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (AM2 FUSE - BATTERY POSITIVE TERMINAL, EFI FUSE - BATTERY POSITIVE TERMINAL)
