Introduction
During the vehicle Pre-Delivery Service (PDS) or after a repair where the fuse or short pin has been removed, the VSC steering angle sensor must be initialized/re-initialized.
Applicable Vehicles
- 2004 model year RAV4, Scion xB, Tacoma and Tundra vehicles.
- 2005 model year Scion xA vehicles.

Initialization Procedure
Please perform the following procedure to ensure that the VSC steering angle sensor is correctly initialized.
- With the ignition in the off position, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
- Check that the steering wheel is in the straight-ahead position (+/- 30 degrees from straight ahead). If the steering wheel position is more than +/- 30 degrees from straight-ahead position, turn the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position.
- Install the fuse/short pin and reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
