Diagnosis System

  1. DESCRIPTION

The CRUISE indicator light on the combination meter blinks when the cruise control is malfunctioning. And then, the ECM (PCM) stores diagnosis trouble codes (DTCs). DTCs can be read from the data link connector (DLC3) with a intelligent tester or an OBDII scan tool. If the CRUISE indicator light blinks, read DTCs to isolate the problem.

  2. CHECK DLC3
    1. The vehicle's ECM uses ISO 9141-2 for communication. The terminal arrangement of the DLC3 complies with SAE J1962 and matches the ISO 9141-2 format.

      DLC3 CONNECTOR TERMINAL SPECIFIED CONDITION

Symbols (Terminal NO.) Terminal Description Condition Specified Condition
SIL (7) - SG (5) Bus "+" line During transmission Pulse generation
CG (4) - Body ground Chassis ground Always Below 1 Ω
SG (5) - Body ground Signal ground Always Below 1 Ω
      BAT (16) - Body ground Battery positive Always 11 to 10 V

      HINT:

If the display shows "UNABLE TO CONNECT TO VEHICLE" after connecting the intelligent tester to the DLC3 and turning the ignition switch to the ON position, there is a problem with either the vehicle or the tester. (Intelligent tester only)

      • If communication is normal when the tester is connected to another vehicle, inspect the DLC3 on the original vehicle.
      • If communication is still not possible when the tester is connected to another vehicle, the problem is probably in the tester itself, so consult the Service Department listed in the tester's instruction manual.
  3. CHECK CRUISE MAIN INDICATOR LIGHT
    1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

    2. Check that the CRUISE main indicator light comes on when the cruise control main switch ON-OFF button is pushed on, and that the indicator light goes off when the ON-OFF button is pushed off.

      HINT:

If there is a problem with the indicator light, inspect the CRUISE main indicator light circuit (see CRUISE MAIN INDICATOR LIGHT CIRCUIT  ).

      HINT:

If a malfunction occurs in the vehicle speed sensors, stop light switch assembly or other related parts during cruise control driving, the ECM actuates AUTO CANCEL of the cruise control. Then the CRUISE main indicator light starts to blink, informing the driver of the malfunction. At the same time, data of the malfunction is stored as a diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
