DTC P0705: Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input): Procedure

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      C28-2 (RB) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (OUTPUT SIGNAL) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      C28-4 (B) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

    NG → See step   8 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      4 (B) - 5 (L) Shift lever in P or N Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever not in P and N 10 kΩ or higher
      2 (RB) - 6 (PL) Shift lever in P Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever not in P 10 kΩ or higher
      1 (RL) - 2 (RB) Shift lever in R Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever not in R 10 kΩ or higher
      2 (RB) - 9 (NL) Shift lever in N Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever not in N 10 kΩ or higher
      2 (RB) - 7 (DL) Shift lever in D or 3 Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever not in D and 3 10 kΩ or higher
      2 (RB) - 3 (2L) Shift lever in 2 Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever not in 2 10 kΩ or higher
      2 (RB) - 8 (LL) Shift lever in L Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever not in L 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → See step   10 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Connect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connectors.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C19-73 (P) - Body ground Shift lever in P 11 to 14 V
      Shift lever not in P Below 1 V
      C19-53 (R) - Body ground Shift lever in R 11 to 14 V*
      Shift lever not in R Below 1 V
      C19-54 (N) - Body ground Shift lever in N 11 to 14 V
      Shift lever not in N Below 1 V
      C19-56 (D) - Body ground Shift lever D or 3 position 11 to 14 V
      Shift lever not in D and 3 Below 1 V
      C19-55 (2) - Body ground Shift lever in 2 11 to 14 V
      Shift lever not in 2 Below 1 V
      C19-74 (L) - Body ground Shift lever in L 11 to 14 V
      Shift lever not in L Below 1 V

      HINT: 

      * : The voltage will drop slightly due to lighting up of the back up light.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - SHIFT LOCK CONTROL UNIT) 
    1. Disconnect the transmission control switch connector of the shift lock control unit assembly.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F24-9 (NSSD) - F24-8 (E) Shift lever in D or 3 11 to 14 V
      Shift lever not in D and 3 Below 1 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. INSPECT SHIFT LOCK CONTROL UNIT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3 (AT3) - 9 (NSSD) Shift lever in 3 Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever in D 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → See step   11 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SHIFT LOCK CONTROL UNIT ASSEMBLY - ECM) 
    1. Connect the transmission control switch connector of the shift lock control unit assembly.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A21-26 (ODMS) - Body ground Shift lever in 3 11 to 14 V
      Shift lever not in 3 Below 1 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   9 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connectors.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C28-4 (B) - C19-52 (STAR(NSW)) Always Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C28-4 (B) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C19-52 (STAR(NSW)) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   9 

  9. REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  10. REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  11. REPLACE SHIFT LOCK CONTROL UNIT ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL
