DTC B2286: Runnable Signal Malfunction: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (ENGINE CONDITION, ENGINE SPEED) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Power Source Control / Data List.
    5. According to the display on the Techstream, read the Data List.
      POWER SOURCE CONTROL

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Engine Condition Condition of engine / Stop or Run Stop: Engine is stopped
      Run: Engine is running
      -
    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List.
    7. According to the display on the Techstream, read the Data List.
      ENGINE

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Engine Speed Engine speed / 0 to 16383 r/min Changes according to engine speed -

      OK

      The Data List items change in accordance with the engine condition.

      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      NG A
      OK B

    B → See step   7 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER SOURCE) See step   1 

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR IN CIRCUIT CONNECTED TO POWER SOURCE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (GROUND) See step   2 

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the D48 certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.
    2. Disconnect the A35 ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D48-17 (TACH) - A35-15 (TACH) Always Below 1 Ω
      D48-17 (TACH) or A35-15 (TACH) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. INSPECT CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Reconnect the A35 ECM connector.
    2. Reconnect the D48 certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.

    3. Check the signal waveform according to the condition(s) in the table below.

      OK

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D48-17 (TACH) - Body ground Engine is stopped No pulse generated
      Engine is running Pulse generated
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Component with harness connected
      (Certification ECU (Smart Key ECU Assembly))

    NG → See step   7 

    OK → See step   6 

  6. REPLACE CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY). Refer to  REMOVAL [05/2013 - ] 
  7. GO TO SFI SYSTEM (HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING). Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [05/2013 - ]
