Washer Fluid Level Warning Switch Circuit: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (LEVEL WARNING SWITCH) 
    1. Use the Data List to check if the level warning switch is functioning properly. Refer to DATA LIST/ACTIVE TEST .
      COMBINATION METER

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Washer Switch Level warning switch/ON or OFF ON: Washer jar and tank empty
      OFF: Washer jar and tank full
      -

      OK

      On the Techstream screen, item changes between ON and OFF according to the above chart.

    NG → See step   3 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (WASHER LEVEL WARNING LIGHT) 
    1. Operate the Techstream according to the display and select Active Test. Refer to DATA LIST/ACTIVE TEST .
      COMBINATION METER

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Indicat. Lamp Washer Washer level warning light ON/OFF -

      OK

      Washer level warning light condition can be switched by Active Test.

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT LEVEL WARNING SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the level warning switch. Refer to REMOVAL .

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 - 2 Fluid volume is more than 900 cc (54.9 cu.in.) 10 kΩ or higher
      1 - 2 Fluid volume is less than 500 cc (30.5 cu.in.) Below 1 Ω

      HINT: 

      When the fluid volume is between 500 and 900 cc (30.5 and 54.9 cu.in.), the level warning switch may be on or off.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (LEVEL WARNING SWITCH ASSEMBLY - COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the A17 level warning switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the C50 combination meter connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A17-1 (S) - C50-15 (WLVL) Always Below 1 Ω
      A17-2 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      A17-1 (S) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   5 

  5. PROCEED TO NEXT SUSPECTED AREA SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  
  6. REPLACE LEVEL WARNING SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL
