DTC P0705: Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input): Procedure

  1. CHECK PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY (POWER SOURCE) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      B14-1 (RB) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
      B14-1 (RB) - Body ground Ignition switch off Below 1 V
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Park/Neutral Position Switch)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - BATTERY) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TCM OUTPUT SIGNAL) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    2. Disconnect the B30 ECM connector.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      B14-4 (B) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
      B14-4 (B) - Body ground Ignition switch off Below 1 V

      (to Park/Neutral Position Switch)

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      4 (B) - 9 (L) Shift lever in P Below 1 Ω
      1 (RB) - 2 (RL) Shift lever in R Below 1 Ω
      4 (B) - 9 (L) Shift lever in N Below 1 Ω
      1 (RB) - 7 (DL) Shift lever in D, S, "+" or "-" Below 1 Ω
      4 (B) - 9 (L) Shift lever not in P 10 kΩ or higher
      1 (RB) - 2 (RL) Shift lever not in R 10 kΩ or higher
      4 (B) - 9 (L) Shift lever not in N 10 kΩ or higher
      1 (RB) - 7 (DL) Shift lever not in D, S, "+" or "-" 10 kΩ or higher

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Park/Neutral Position Switch)

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - TCM) 
    1. Disconnect the TCM connector.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B31-16 (D) - Body ground
      • Ignition switch ON
      • Shift lever in D
      11 to 14 V
      B31-15 (R) - Body ground
      • Ignition switch ON
      • Shift lever in R
      11 to 14 V*
      B31-16 (D) - Body ground
      • Ignition switch ON
      • Shift lever not in D
      Below 1 V
      B31-15 (R) - Body ground
      • Ignition switch ON
      • Shift lever not in R
      Below 1 V

      (to TCM)

      HINT: 

      *: The voltage will drop slightly due to the illumination of the back-up light.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   6 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - TCM) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the TCM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B14-4 (B) - B31-11 (NSW) Always Below 1 Ω
      B14-4 (B) or B31-11 (NSW) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   8 

  6. REPLACE TCM. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  7. REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  8. REPLACE TCM. Refer to  REMOVAL
