Supplemental Restraint System Control Unit, Component Description - GF91.60-P-4080KJ
MODEL 453.0/3/4
Location
Supplemental restraint system (SRS).
The SRS control unit is located under the center console on the front transmission tunnel.
Task
The SRS control unit has the following tasks:
- Read in sensors and signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Actuation of components
Read in sensors and signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Seat occupied LiN (LiN E2) (only with code 494 (USA version))
- interior CAN (CAN B)
Direct line
The signals from the following sensors are read in via direct lines:
- Left sidebag sensor (A53)
- Right sidebag sensor (A54)
- Left frontal acceleration sensor (B48/1) (only with code 494 (USA version))
- Right frontal acceleration sensor (B48/2) (only with code 494 (USA version))
- Front passenger seat occupied recognition (B41/1) (except with code 494 (USA version))
- Left front door pressure sensor (B48/7)
- Right front door pressure sensor (B48/8)
- Circuit 15 status from ignition lock (S2)
- Left front seat belt buckle switch (S68/1)
- Right front seat belt buckle switch (S68/2)
- Left rear belt buckle switch (S68/11) (model 453.0 only)
- Right rear belt buckle switch (S68/12) (model 453.0)
- Front passenger airbag shutoff switch (S68/15) (except with code 494 (USA version))
Seat occupied LIN (LIN E2) (only with code 494 (USA version))
The following signals are read in via the seat occupied LIN:
- Seat occupation status and weight class of the front passenger from the weight sensing system (WSS) control unit (N110) (only with code 494 (USA version))
Interior CAN (CAN B)
The following signals, e.g. are read in over the interior CAN:
- Status of central locking (CL [ZV]) from center SAM control unit (N10/10)
- Speed signal from the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4)
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see appropriate block diagram or function schematic).
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor of the SRS control unit whereupon the relevant components are then actuated.
Actuation of components
The actuation of the components takes place via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Interior CAN
Direct line
The following components are actuated via direct lines:
- Front passenger airbag OFF indicator lamp (A71e1) in the front passenger airbag warning indicator (A71)
- Front passenger airbag ON indicator lamp (A71e2) in the front passenger airbag warning indicator
- Driver airbag squib (R12/3) (except with code 494 (USA version)) via steering wheel clock spring contact (A45/1)
- Left rear emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/6) (model 453.0)
- Right rear emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/7) (model 453.0)
- Front passenger airbag squib (R12/8) (except with code 494 (USA version))
- Right front belt force limiter (R12/26) (only with code 494 (USA version))
- Left front belt force limiter (R12/27) (only with code 494 (USA version))
- Left front belt fitting tensioner squib (R12/37) (only with code 494 (USA version))
- Right front belt fitting tensioner squib (R12/38) (only with code 494 (USA version))
- Front passenger airbag squib 1 (R12/4) (only with code 494 (USA version)) via steering wheel clock spring contact
- Front passenger airbag squib 2 (R12/5) (only with code 494 (USA version)) via steering wheel clock spring contact
- Driver airbag squib 1 (R12/13) (only with code 494 (USA version))
- Driver airbag squib 2 (R12/14) (only with code 494 (USA version))
- Left windowbag squib (R12/22) (only with code 494 (USA version) and with model 453.091/391/491)
- Right windowbag squib (R12/23) (only with code 494 (USA version) and with model 453.091/391/491)
- Front passenger kneebag squib (R12/24) (with code 294 (Kneebag) and code 494 (USA version))
- Driver kneebag squib (R12/25) (with CODE 294 (Kneebag))
- Front passenger airbag ventilation valve squib (R12/44) (only with code 494 (USA version))
- Left front sidebag (R12/39)
- Right front sidebag (R12/40)
- Left front emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/53)
- Right front emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/54)
In vehicles up to and including model year 2016 and in nationalversions for the Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) code 294 (Kneebag) is standard equipment for the driver. Windowbags are always standard equipment in model 453.091/391/491. For the national versions with code 494 (USA version), code 294 (Kneebag) is part of the standard equipment for the driver and front passenger. Vehicles with code 460 (Canada version) are always assigned code 494 (USA version) at the same time and therefore they have the same SRS safety equipment.
Interior CAN
The following signals are transmitted via interior CAN, for example:
- Request, supplemental restraint system indicator lamp (A1e15) in the instrument cluster (A1)
- Request to display fault message on multifunction display (A1 p13) of instrument cluster (on vehicles with code K36 (Instrument cluster with color 8.9 cm (3.5") display)
- Crash signal to ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (except model 453.091/391/491) or to electric drive control unit (N127) (model 453.091/391/491) and center SAM control unit
- Respective status of belt buckle switches for the seat belt warning via the instrument cluster
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see appropriate block diagram or function schematic).
Structure
The SRS control unit is available in the following national versions:
- Vehicles for ECE and other countries without code 494 (USA version)
- Vehicles with CODE 494 (USA version)
