Models Without Turbo
When engine is not running, vapors from expanding fuel flow out of tank and into canister through vapor separator and 2-way valve. The closed purge control valve prevents vapors from flowing out of canister and into intake manifold through purge line. Also, when ignition key is off, solenoid valve (if equipped) opens allowing float bowl vapors to flow into canister.
When ignition is turned on, solenoid valve closes, blocking off float bowl to canister passage. The thermo vacuum valve vents control vacuum to air cleaner until engine reaches temperature above 95°F (35°C).
With engine running and engine temperature above 95°F, thermo vacuum valve opens purge control valve. Manifold vacuum then pulls vapors from canister into combustion chambers for burning.
