No-Load Test

Clamp starter in bench tester or in vise. Connect test equipment to starter. See Fig 1. Close switch to engage starter. Measure current draw, rotating speed and voltage drop. See STARTER SPECIFICATIONS table at end of article.
Low rotating speed or excessive current draw may be caused by high friction rotating resistance caused by worn bushings or improper assembly.
