Sub (Condenser) Fan Does Not Operate
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Subaru Impreza and 2000 Subaru Impreza. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- If sub fan does not operate, check fuse No. 17 (15-amp). If fuse is blown, repair short circuit and replace fuse. If fuse is okay, check if battery voltage exists at terminal No. 2 (Yellow/Green wire) of sub fan motor. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 3.
- Check if terminal No. 1 (Black wire) of sub fan motor is grounded. If wire is grounded, replace sub fan motor. If wire is not grounded, repair open in Black wire between sub fan motor and ground on each side of radiator support.
- Check voltage at terminal No. 17 (Yellow/Green wire) of sub fan relay. If voltage exists, repair short to power in Yellow/Green wire. If voltage does not exist, check voltage at terminal No. 18 (White wire) of condenser fan relay. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in White wire.
- Check if terminal No. 19 (Green/Red wire) of condenser sub fan relay is grounded. If wire is grounded, replace condenser fan relay. If wire is not grounded, check if battery voltage exists at terminal A12 Green/Red wire at ECM. If battery voltage exists, replace ECM. If battery voltage does not exist, repair Red/Blue wire between sub fan relay and ECM.
