Electric Power Steering Gearbox: Installation
CAUTION:
- When raising the transmission jack, make sure that the tie-rod end and the drive shaft boot do not interfere. The drive shaft boot may be damaged.
- For parts which are not reusable, always use new parts.
- Always tighten the bushing in the state where the vehicle is at curb weight and the wheels are in full contact with the ground.
- Make sure that there is no gap between the front axle housing and the collar. (Impreza model)
- If the collar comes off from the front axle housing, replace the front axle housing with a new part. (Impreza model)
- Install the steering gearbox assembly and stiffener to the crossmember COMPL.CAUTION: Always use new bolts, since the mounting bolts of the steering gearbox assembly are lubricated.
Tightening torque:
Refer to "COMPONENT" of "General Description" for the tightening torque. Ref. to FRONT SUSPENSION>GENERAL DESCRIPTION>COMPONENT>FRONT SUSPENSION .
- Install the connector and harness clamp of the power steering control module.
- Install the universal joint assembly - steering. Ref. to POWER ASSISTED SYSTEM (POWER STEERING)>UNIVERSAL JOINT>INSTALLATION .
- Connect the tie-rod ends.CAUTION:
- For Impreza model, do not forget to install the washer.
- Do not apply grease, etc. to the tapered portion of ball stud.
- Tighten the castle nut.NOTE: If the ball stud hole and the cutout portion of the castle nut are not aligned after tightening, tighten the castle nut within the range of 60° to align with each other.
Tightening torque:
27 N.m (2.8 kgf-m, 19.9 ft-lb)
- Install a new cotter pin.
- Install the stabilizer. Ref. to FRONT SUSPENSION>STABILIZER>INSTALLATION>STABILIZER .
- Install the front exhaust pipe. Ref. to EXHAUST (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>FRONT EXHAUST PIPE>INSTALLATION .
- Install the crossmember support - front and the crossmember support - rear. Ref. to FRONT SUSPENSION>CROSSMEMBER SUPPORT>INSTALLATION .
- Install the under cover - front.
Tightening torque:
18 N.m (1.8 kgf-m, 13.3 ft-lb)
- Install the front wheels and lower the vehicle.
Tightening torque:
120 N.m (12.2 kgf-m, 88.5 ft-lb)
- Connect the ground terminal to 12V engine restart battery sensor. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY
.NOTE: For the hybrid model, connect the battery negative terminal.
- After adjusting toe-in and steering angle, tighten the lock nut on tie-rod end.CAUTION: When the wheel alignment has been adjusted, perform the following adjustment.
- Lane keep assist learning value clear (except for hybrid model (model with EyeSight)): Ref. to EYESIGHT (DIAGNOSTICS EXCEPT FOR HEV)>CLEAR ACTIVE LANE KEEP SYSTEM LEARNING VALUE>OPERATTON .
- Lane keep assist learning value clear (hybrid model (model with EyeSight)): Ref. to EYESIGHT (DIAGNOSTICS (HEV)>CLEAR ACTIVE LANE KEEP SYSTEM LEARNING VALUE>OPERATTON .
- VDC sensor midpoint setting mode: Ref. to VEHICLE DYNAMICS CONTROL (VDC)>VDC CONTROL MODULE AND HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (VDCCM & H/U)>ADJUSTMENT .
Tightening torque:
85 N.m (8.7 kgf-m, 62.7 ft-lb)
NOTE: When adjusting toe-in, hold the boot - steering gearbox as shown to prevent it from being rotated or twisted. If it becomes twisted, straighten it.
