When Not Removing Front CROSSMEMBER

  1. Remove the striker - front hood. Refer to EXTERIOR BODY PANELS>FRONT HOOD>DISASSEMBLY .
  2. Fully open the front hood. Refer to NOTE>NOTE>FRONT HOOD GAS STAY .
  3. Remove the collector cover. Refer to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (W/O STI)>COLLECTOR COVER>REMOVAL .
  4. Disconnect the ground terminal from battery sensor. Refer to NOTE>NOTE>BATTERY .
  5. Remove the air intake duct. Refer to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (W/O STI)>AIR INTAKE DUCT>REMOVAL .
  6. Remove the clip (A) and clip (B) which secure the engine wiring harness and bulkhead harness to the bracket, and remove the bolt which secures the engine control module (ECM) to the bracket.

  7. Pull out the engine control module (ECM) from the bracket, and move it to a location that does not interfere operation.
    NOTE: When performing the pulling out operation, pay attention not to apply excessive load to the breather filter portion (a) in order to avoid the damage.

  8. Drain engine coolant. Refer to COOLING(W/O STI)>ENGINE COOLANT>REPLACEMENT>DRAINING OF ENGINE COOLANT .
  9. Drain the engine oil. Refer to LUBRICATION(W/O STI)>ENGINE OIL>REPLACEMENT .
  10. Remove the front exhaust pipe. Refer to EXHAUST(W/O STI)>FRONT EXHAUST PIPE>REMOVAL .
  11. Disconnect the oil level switch connector from the engine wiring harness, and remove the clip (A) securing the harness.

  12. Remove the nuts which secure the engine mounting to the front crossmember.

  13. Remove the electric power steering gearbox. Refer to POWER ASSISTED SYSTEM (POWER STEERING)>ELECTRIC POWER STEERING GEARBOX>REMOVAL .
  14. Remove the front drive shaft LH. Refer to DRIVE SHAFT SYSTEM>FRONT DRIVE SHAFT>REMOVAL .
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Remove the intercooler. Refer to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (W/O STI)>INTERCOOLER>REMOVAL .
  17. Disconnect the connector (A) from the brake vacuum pump.
  18. Disconnect connector (B) and terminal (C) from the generator, and remove the clip (D) securing the generator cord to the intake manifold.

  19. Disconnect connector (A) from A/C compressor, and remove the generator cord from clip (B).
  20. Remove the clip (C) securing the generator cord to the fuel pipe protector, and move the generator cord aside so that it does not interfere with the work.

  21. Remove the pitching stopper.

  22. Lift up the vehicle. (CVT model)
  23. Set the transmission jack to the transmission. (CVT model)
    NOTE: Be careful that the support plate of transmission jack does not touch the transmission oil pan.
  24. Remove the rear crossmember and attach the ST. (CVT model)

    ST 41099YC001 ST REAR MOUNT 

    Tightening torque: 

    T1: 35 N.m (3.6 kgf-m, 25.8 ft-lb)

    T2: 70 N.m (7.1 kgf-m, 51.6 ft-lb)

  25. Remove the transmission jack. (CVT model)
  26. Lower the vehicle. (CVT model)
  27. Remove the bolt (A) securing the transmission harness stay to the CVT. (CVT model)
    NOTE: This procedure is required to prevent the transmission connector from touching the A/C pressure hose during engine lift-up.
  28. Remove the air breather hose from the clip (B), and then remove the clip (B) from the pitching stopper bracket. (CVT model)
    NOTE: This procedure is required to prevent the clip from touching the A/C pressure hose during engine lift-up.

  29. Set the cushioning material such as a waste cloth between pitching stopper bracket and transmission case cover. (CVT model)
    NOTE:
    • This operation is required to prevent damage to the transmission case cover.
    • Make sure that the height of cushioning material does not become 15 - 20 mm (0.6 - 0.8 in) or less when it is crushed.
  30. Lift up the engine with a lifting device and wire ropes.
    CAUTION: When lifting up the engine, pay attention to the clearance of each part and be careful not to lift the engine too much, in order to prevent damaging the vehicle.

  31. Remove the engine mounting LH from the engine.

  32. Remove clip (A) from the oil pan upper, and remove the oil level switch.
