When Not Removing The CROSSMEMBER COMPL Front

  1. Remove the striker assembly front hood. Ref. to EXTERIOR BODY PANELS>FRONT HOOD>DISASSEMBLY .
    NOTE: This procedure is necessary to prevent the lifting device and the striker assembly front hood from contacting with each other and causing damage. However, the procedure may be omitted if it is assured that the lifting device to be used will not make a contact.
  2. Fully open the panel COMPL front hood. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>FRONT HOOD GAS STAY .
  3. Disconnect the ground terminal from battery sensor. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
  4. Drain engine coolant. Ref. to COOLING (H4DOTC)>ENGINE COOLANT>REPLACEMENT>DRAINING OF ENGINE COOLANT .
  5. Drain the engine oil. Ref. to LUBRICATION (H4DOTC)>ENGINE OIL>REPLACEMENT .
  6. Remove the V-belt covers.

  7. Remove the air intake duct. Ref. to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (H4DOTC)>AIR INTAKE DUCT>REMOVAL .
  8. Remove the intercooler. Ref. to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (H4DOTC)>INTERCOOLER>REMOVAL .
  9. Remove the pitching stopper.

    CVT model: 

    Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR690)>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>REMOVAL>PITCHING STOPPER .

    MT model: 

    Ref. to MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND DIFFERENTIAL (TY75)>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>REMOVAL>PITCHING STOPPER .

  10. Remove the front exhaust pipe. Ref. to EXHAUST (H4DOTC)>FRONT EXHAUST PIPE>REMOVAL .
  11. Remove the electric power steering gearbox. Ref. to POWER ASSISTED SYSTEM (POWER STEERING)>ELECTRIC POWER STEERING GEARBOX>REMOVAL .
  12. Remove the front drive shaft LH. Ref. to PROPELLER SHAFT/DRIVE SHAFT/AXLE>FRONT DRIVE SHAFT>REMOVAL .
  13. Set the ST between the vehicle and the rear crossmember. (CVT model)
    CAUTION: Be sure to use the M10 x 60 x 1.25 bolts in the strength range of 8.8 (8.8 or 8 stamped on bolt head) or more in order to avoid damage to the vehicle body.
    NOTE:
    • This procedure is required to ensure the necessary clearance between the vehicle and the transmission body when removing/installing the engine.
    • It is necessary to prepare four sets (eight pieces) of the ST and four M10 x 60 x 1.25 bolts in the strength range of 8.8 (8.8 or 8 stamped on bolt head) or more.

    Preparation tool: 

    ST: ADAPTER (18362AA020)

    1. Remove the center exhaust cover.

    2. Set the transmission jack to the transmission body.
      NOTE: Be careful that the support plate of transmission jack does not touch the transmission oil pan.
    3. Remove the bolt securing the rear crossmember to the vehicle.

    4. Operate the transmission jack to adjust the transmission body height, and set ST using the M10 x 60 x 1.25 bolts in the strength range of 8.8 (8.8 or 8 stamped on bolt head) or more between the vehicle and the rear crossmember.

      Tightening torque: 

      70 N.m (7.1 kgf-m, 51.6 ft-lb)

    5. Remove the transmission jack.
  14. Remove the nuts which secure the engine mounting to the crossmember COMPL front.

  15. Using the ST1, install the ST2 to the engine unit.

    Preparation tool: 

    ST1: BOLT (18363AA050)

    ST2: HANGER (18360AA040)

    Tightening torque: 

    43 N.m (4.4 kgf-m, 31.7 ft-lb)

  16. Lift up the engine with a lifting device and wire ropes.
    CAUTION: When lifting up the engine, pay attention to the clearance of each part and be careful not to lift the engine too much, in order to prevent damaging the vehicle.

  17. Remove the engine mounting LH.

  18. Remove the clip holding the oil level switch harness and disconnect the connectors.

  19. Remove the clip securing the harness, and remove the oil level switch.
