Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM)
EBCM is located behind left side of instrument panel above junction block. See Figure and Fig 1 . EBCM monitors AC signals of each wheel. EBCM translates signals as wheel speed. When any decelerating wheel speed rate is determined to be excessive in comparison to other monitored wheels, the ABS actuator assembly (hydraulic unit) cycles hydraulic brake pressure to each wheel to equalize speed of all wheels. ABS does not function when vehicle speed drops to 4 MPH.
EBCM on 4-wheel drive vehicles, is linked to Engine Control Module (ECM) by an idle-up circuit. EBCM commands ECM to increase idle speed during an ABS stop on an icy road surface. Increased idle speed reduces engine braking, preventing early wheel lock-up and enhance brake modulation.
