Fuel Injector Circuit

  1. Using a mechanic's stethoscope, check each fuel injector for operating "clicking" sound as engine is cranked. If all fuel injectors made operating sound, fuel injector circuit is okay. If no injectors made operating sound, go to next step. If one or more fuel injector(s) do not make operating sound, check for faulty injector wiring harness, faulty injectors or poor connections. If injector wiring harness, injector(s) and connections are okay, replace PCM and retest system.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect harness connector from No. 1 fuel injector. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and Red/Black (Esteem), White/Blue (Swift) or Blue/Black (Vitara) wire, and wire terminal of harness connector. If DVOM indicates battery voltage, go to next step. If DVOM does not indicate battery voltage, repair power circuit for an open or short and retest system. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connectors. Using DVOM, check for continuity in all injector circuits at appropriate PCM harness connector terminals. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If continuity is not present in all injector circuits, go to next step. If continuity is present in all injector circuits, replace PCM and retest system.
  4. Using DVOM, measure resistance of each injector where circuit did not indicate continuity. See SERVICE & ADJUSTMENT SPECIFICATIONS article for resistance specifications. Repair as necessary. If injectors are okay, replace PCM and retest system.
