A/C Compressor Relay Control System Check: Troubleshooting

A/C COMPRESSOR RELAY CONTROL - TROUBLESHOOTING CHART

Step Action YES NO
A/C compressor control circuit check
  1. Remove ECM cover.
  2. Measure voltage between "E61-8" and vehicle body ground with ignition switch turned ON.

Is voltage 10 - 14 V?
Go to Step 3. Go to Step 2.
A/C compressor control circuit check
  1. Turn OFF ignition switch.
  2. Check for fuse blow at "HTR 15 A" fuse.
  3. If OK, check A/C compressor relay referring to A/C COMPRESSOR RELAY AND CONDENSER FAN MOTOR RELAY INSPECTION : Manual Type.

Is check result as specified?
"YEL/GRN" wire or "PNK" wire is open circuit. Faulty A/C compressor relay.
A/C compressor control signal check
  1. Start engine.
  2. Turn ON A/C switch and heater blower motor switch.
  3. Measure voltage between "E61-8" and vehicle body ground with engine running.

Is voltage 0 - 1 V?
Go to Step 4. Go to Step 5.
A/C compressor control circuit check
  1. Turn OFF ignition switch.
  2. Check for fuse blow at main fuse (25 A).
  3. If OK, check A/C compressor relay referring to A/C COMPRESSOR RELAY AND CONDENSER FAN MOTOR RELAY INSPECTION : Manual Type.

Is check result as specified?
"RED/BLK" wire or "WHT/RED" wire is open circuit.
If wire circuits are OK, check A/C compressor referring to MAGNET CLUTCH OPERATING CHECK : Manual Type.
Faulty A/C compressor relay.
A/C switch signal check
  1. Start engine.
  2. Turn ON A/C switch and heater blower motor switch.
  3. Measure voltage between "E61-17" and vehicle body ground with ignition switch turned ON.

Is voltage 0 - 1 V?
Poor performance of ECT sensor or its circuit. If they are OK, substitute a known-good ECM and recheck. Faulty "GRN/BLK" wire, A/C evaporator temperature is below 2.5 °C, 36.5 °F, faulty refrigerant pressure switch or faulty A/C system referring to HVAC CONTROL MODULE AND ITS CIRCUITS INSPECTION : Manual Type or HVAC CONTROL MODULE AND ITS CIRCUITS INSPECTION : Automatic Type.
