Drive Unit - Front (2nd Generation) - Remove And Replace: Remove

  1. Remove the 2nd generation front drive unit assembly from the vehicle. See DRIVE UNIT - FRONT (2ND GENERATION) (REMOVE AND INSTALL) .
  2. Release the clips (x2) that attach the A/C compressor electrical harness to the front drive unit assembly.

  3. Remove the bolts (x3) that attach the A/C compressor to the bracket on the front drive unit assembly.

  4. Attach the drive unit sling tool to the front drive unit assembly and hand tighten the bolts to the sling tool.
    NOTE: Follow the mounting points for the Model 3 rear drive unit as shown with the tool instructions.

  5. Put the drive unit stand underneath the gantry, and then secure the sling tool to the gantry.

  6. Raise the sling tool so that there is a slight tension on the sling tool cables.

  7. Raise the sling tool to lift the front drive unit assembly off the motor stand.

  8. Put the front drive unit assembly above an empty crate made for the front drive unit or use a pallet, and then lower the front drive unit assembly onto the crate or pallet.
