Front Drive Unit Assembly - Electric Oil Pump - Remove And Replace: Remove
- Raise and support the vehicle. See RAISE VEHICLE - 2 STANDS .
- Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
- Disconnect the LV battery power. See LV BATTERY - LI-LON - DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
- Remove the front aero shield panel. See FRONT UNDERTRAY - MODEL 3/Y, FRONT AERO SHIELD - REMOVE AND REPLACE .
- Support the LH side of the front drive unit with an underhoist stand (1081765-00-A).
- Remove the bolt that attaches the front drive unit to the front subframe.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- 18 mm socket
- Cordless 3/8 in Dr Impact
- Carefully lower the front underhoist stand until the front drive unit oil pump is accessible.
- Position an oil drain container under the front drive unit oil filter area.
- Pull the red locking tab to disconnect the oil pump connector, and then remove the oil filter from the front drive unit.
- Remove the fill plug from the front drive unit.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 8 mm socket
- Ratchet/torque wrench
- Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the oil pump to the front drive unit, and then remove the oil pump from the front drive unit.CAUTION: Carefully pry the pump away from the front drive unit to avoid damage to the plastic and the castings.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Socket 1/4 in Dr EP10 - 1451830-00-A
- Cordless 1/4 in Dr Ratchet
- 4 in extension
- Ratchet/torque wrench
- 1/4 in to 3/8 in adapter
- Torque wrench with angle measurement
- Remove the fill plug from the front drive unit, and wait for 10 minutes for the oil to naturally flow out until it reaches the droplet state.
- Inspect the 3 O-rings on the removed oil pump, the O-ring on the removed fill plug, and the seal on the removed oil filter. Make sure that no O-ring or seal is left in the housing or damaged.NOTE: Replace all damaged components.
