Front Drive Unit Assembly - Electric Oil Pump - Remove And Replace: Install

Install the new oil pump assembly to the front drive unit.
NOTE: Lightly coat the O-rings with clean KAF 1.
Install the bolts (x2) that attach the oil pump to the front drive unit.
5 N.m (3.7 lbs-ft)

Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Socket 1/4 in Dr EP10 - 1451830-00-A
- Cordless 1/4 in Dr Ratchet
- 4 in extension
- Ratchet/torque wrench
- 1/4 in to 3/8 in adapter
- Torque wrench with angle measurement

Install the new oil filter to the front drive unit.
3 N.m (2.2 lbs-ft)

Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Oil filter socket
- 21 mm socket
- 1/4 in to 3/8 in adapter
- Torque wrench with angle measurement
Lubricate the oil pump O-rings (x3) with fresh KAF 1 gearbox fluid, and then reinstall the oil pump onto the front drive unit assembly.
NOTE: Make sure that the oil pump O-rings are lubricated before installation onto the front drive unit.
Set up the fill kit with KAF 1, fill the measuring container to 1500ml.

Connect the 12V power supply to the oil pump.

Install the fluid transfer pump.
NOTE: Trim both the input and output hoses to 26", insert the output hose into the fill hole until fully seated, and then pull back 5 mm.

Place the measured fluid container in the drain basket, fully submerge the input hose, then prime the pump with KAF 1 fluid.

With assistance, pump KAF 1 fluid into the front drive unit.
NOTE: The assistant will run the oil pump switch box using XP-10 Jump Pack and have the front drive unit fill plug ready for installation.

NOTE: Do not run the pump dry. Pump 5 full strokes from fluid container while simultaneously running the oil pump switch box for entire fill process. Keep running the oil pump switch box until the drain plug is installed in the next step. If the pump is not running or the drain plug is not installed, fluid will drain from plug within 10 seconds.

NOTE: The minimum refill capacity of the front drive unit assembly is 1.3 liters. Using excess gearbox fluid in the fill container allows the oil pump to dispense the full 1.3L without drawing air. Make sure that there is less than 200mL left when completed. Pumping the full 1.5 liters is not required.
Install the fill plug to the front drive unit.
15 N.m (11.1 lbs-ft)

Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 8 mm socket
- Ratchet/torque wrench

Disconnect the 12V power supply tool from the oil pump.
Connect the oil pump connector.

Remove the oil drain container from underneath the vehicle.
Install the bolt that attaches the front drive unit to the front subframe.
80 N.m (59.0 lbs-ft)

Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- 18 mm socket
- Cordless 3/8 in Dr Impact

Remove the underhoist stand.
Install the front aero shield panel. See FRONT UNDERTRAY - MODEL 3/Y, FRONT AERO SHIELD - REMOVE AND REPLACE .
Connect the LV battery power. See LV BATTERY - LI-LON - DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
Locally connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See TOOLBOX 3 - CONNECT AND DISCONNECT .
Reinstall the software. See SOFTWARE REINSTALL - TOUCHSCREEN .
On the laptop, select Actions tab, and search for "Oil Pump Low Pressure Test - Front Drive Unit". Select⁽ⁱ⁾ , click Run , and allow the routine to complete.
Disconnect the laptop.
Disable Service Mode. See SERVICE MODE .
Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
Remove the lift arms from below the vehicle.
