A/C Idle-Up Valve
NOTE:
The A/C idle-up valve may also be referred to as A/C idle-up Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV).
- Remove A/C idle-up valve. The A/C idle-up valve is located on side of air cleaner case, near the air intake, and contains a Black 2-pin electrical connector. Two hoses are connected to A/C idle-up valve.NOTE: The A/C idle-up valve may also be identified using appropriate illustration in THEORY/OPERATION article and wire color. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
- Using ohmmeter, ensure continuity exists between electrical terminals on A/C idle-up valve and resistance is 30-34 ohms at 68°F (20°C). Replace A/C idle-up valve if no continuity exists or resistance is not within specification.
- Ensure no continuity exists between each electrical terminal and the body of A/C idle-up valve. Replace A/C idle-up valve if continuity exists between electrical terminal and body of A/C idle-up valve.
- To test A/C idle-up valve operation, apply air pressure to designated area with battery disconnected and ensure no air passes through the A/C idle-up valve. See Fig 1.
- Apply battery voltage and ground to electrical terminals on A/C idle-up valve. Apply air pressure to designated area with battery connected and ensure air passes through the A/C idle-up valve. See Fig 1. Replace A/C idle-up valve if defective.
