1999 Avalon

  1. Stand about 4 feet from outside driver's door handle. Point remote transmitter toward vehicle. Press one remote transmitter button for about one second. If doors lock and unlock, system is okay. If doors do not lock and unlock, go to next step.
  2. Replace remote transmitter battery and repeat step  1. If keyless entry operates, system is okay. If keyless entry does not operate, go to next step.
  3. Put system in self diagnostic mode. See VEHICLE ACCESS CODE PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING. Turn ignition on. If taillights flash on for 0.2 seconds, off for 0.2 seconds on for 0.5 seconds and off, go to step  5. If taillights do not function as specified, check that method used to enter self diagnostic mode is correct. If vehicle is correctly entered into self diagnostic mode and taillights function normally, go to next step. If taillights do not function normally, check taillight function. See EXTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  4. Connect ohmmeter between integration relay connector terminal No. 5 (Red/Yellow wire) and ground. If continuity is present when key is inserted into ignition switch, go to next step. If continuity is not present when key is inserted into ignition switch, replace key unlock warning switch which is integral with ignition switch.
  5. Press LOCK button on remote transmitter. Taillights should flash on for .13 second every .5 seconds. Press UNLOCK button on remote transmitter. Taillights should flash for .2 seconds twice and off for .5 seconds. Press trunk button on remote transmitter. Taillights should flash for .5 seconds every .5 seconds. If taillights flash as specified, go to next step. If taillights do not flash, but stay on while any remote transmitter button is pushed, recognition code on remote transmitter is not registered or remote transmitter is not synchronized with rolling code. Reprogram transmitter. See VEHICLE ACCESS CODE PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING. If taillights do not respond after reprogramming, go to step  7.
  6. If taillight operation is as specified and operating range of remote transmitter was okay in step  1, system is okay. If taillight operation is as specified but operating range of remote transmitter was not okay in step  1, test system using a known-good remote transmitter. If system is still inoperable, replace wireless door lock receiver. See WIRELESS DOOR LOCK RECEIVER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  7. Ensure continuity is present in Green/Red wire between wireless door lock receiver terminal No. 2 and integration relay terminal No. 19. Also ensure continuity is present in Blue/White wire between wireless door lock receiver terminal No. 4 and integration relay terminal No. 21. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, check wireless door lock receiver power (Red wire) and ground (White/Black wire) circuits. Repair wiring or replace fuse as necessary. If wiring is okay, replace wireless door lock receiver. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
