Rear Speed Sensor: Removal
HINT:
- Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
- The procedure listed below is for the LH side.
- If the sensor rotor needs to be replaced, replace it together with the rear axle hub and bearing assembly with rear speed sensor.
- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
- REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LH (for Disc Type) (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL RH (for Disc Type) (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Disc Type) (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY (for Disc Type) (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Disc Type) (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE REAR WHEEL
- LOOSEN PARKING BRAKE CABLE (for Disc Type) (See REMOVAL )
- DISCONNECT REAR SPEED SENSOR WIRE (for Drum Type)
- Using a screwdriver, disconnect the connector from the rear speed sensor.NOTE: Be careful not to damage the rear speed sensor.
- Using a screwdriver, disconnect the connector from the rear speed sensor.
- DISCONNECT REAR SPEED SENSOR WIRE (for Disc Type)
- Using a screwdriver, disconnect the connector from the rear speed sensor.NOTE: Be careful not to damage the rear speed sensor.
- Using a screwdriver, disconnect the connector from the rear speed sensor.
- REMOVE PARKING BRAKE LEVER PROTECTOR (See REMOVAL )
- SEPARATE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY (for Disc Type) (See REMOVAL )
- SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY (for Disc Type) (See REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE REAR DISC (for Disc Type) (See DISASSEMBLY )
- REMOVE REAR BRAKE DRUM (for Drum Type) (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY WITH REAR SPEED SENSOR (for Drum Type) (See INSTALLATION )
- REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY WITH REAR SPEED SENSOR (for Disc Type) (See INSTALLATION )
- REMOVE REAR SPEED SENSOR
- Install the 3 hub nuts and mount the rear axle hub and bearing assembly in a vise using aluminum plates.NOTE: Replace the rear axle hub and bearing assembly if it is dropped or receives a strong shock.
- Using a pin punch and a hammer, drive out the 2 pins and remove the 2 attachments from SST.
SST 09520-00031 (09521-00010, 09520-00040), 09521-00020
- Using SST and 2 bolts (diameter: 12 mm, pitch: 1.5 mm), remove the rear speed sensor from the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.

NOTE:- Keep the rear speed sensor away from magnets.
- Pull the rear speed sensor off straight, taking care not to allow it to contact with the rear speed sensor rotor.
- If the rear speed sensor rotor is damaged or deformed, replace the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.
- Do not scratch the contact surface between the rear axle hub and bearing assembly and the rear speed sensor.
- Prevent foreign matter from attaching to the speed sensor rotor or tip.
