Rear Speed Sensor: Removal

HINT:

• Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
• The procedure listed below is for the LH side.
• If the sensor rotor needs to be replaced, replace it together with the rear axle hub and bearing assembly with rear speed sensor.

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
2. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LH (for Disc Type)  (See REMOVAL )
3. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL RH (for Disc Type)  (See REMOVAL )
4. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Disc Type)  (See REMOVAL )
5. REMOVE CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY (for Disc Type)  (See REMOVAL )
6. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Disc Type)  (See REMOVAL )
7. REMOVE REAR WHEEL 
8. LOOSEN PARKING BRAKE CABLE (for Disc Type)  (See REMOVAL )
9. DISCONNECT REAR SPEED SENSOR WIRE (for Drum Type) 
   1. Using a screwdriver, disconnect the connector from the rear speed sensor.
      NOTE: Be careful not to damage the rear speed sensor.

10. DISCONNECT REAR SPEED SENSOR WIRE (for Disc Type) 
    1. Using a screwdriver, disconnect the connector from the rear speed sensor.
       NOTE: Be careful not to damage the rear speed sensor.

11. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE LEVER PROTECTOR  (See REMOVAL )
12. SEPARATE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY (for Disc Type)  (See REMOVAL )
13. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY (for Disc Type)  (See REPLACEMENT )
14. REMOVE REAR DISC (for Disc Type)  (See DISASSEMBLY )
15. REMOVE REAR BRAKE DRUM (for Drum Type)  (See REMOVAL )
16. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY WITH REAR SPEED SENSOR (for Drum Type)  (See INSTALLATION )
17. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY WITH REAR SPEED SENSOR (for Disc Type)  (See INSTALLATION )
18. REMOVE REAR SPEED SENSOR 
    1. Install the 3 hub nuts and mount the rear axle hub and bearing assembly in a vise using aluminum plates.
       NOTE: Replace the rear axle hub and bearing assembly if it is dropped or receives a strong shock.
    2. Using a pin punch and a hammer, drive out the 2 pins and remove the 2 attachments from SST.

       SST 09520-00031 (09521-00010, 09520-00040), 09521-00020 

    3. Using SST and 2 bolts (diameter: 12 mm, pitch: 1.5 mm), remove the rear speed sensor from the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.

       SST 09520-00031 (09521-00010, 09520-00040), 09521-00020, 09950-00020 

       NOTE:

       • Keep the rear speed sensor away from magnets.
       • Pull the rear speed sensor off straight, taking care not to allow it to contact with the rear speed sensor rotor.
       • If the rear speed sensor rotor is damaged or deformed, replace the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.
       • Do not scratch the contact surface between the rear axle hub and bearing assembly and the rear speed sensor.
       • Prevent foreign matter from attaching to the speed sensor rotor or tip.
