Throttle Valve Switch Function

  1. Disconnect wiring from throttle valve switch. Connect ohmmeter between terminals on lead from switch. Reading should be zero ohms (switch is on) when throttle lever is at idle stop and at full throttle stop.
  2. To check switch-on point, open and close throttle valve slowly. When ohmmeter indicates switch is on, measure gap between idle stop and idle adjusting screw with feeler gauge. If adjustment is correct, gap should be .002-.004" (.05-.10 mm). Adjust switch if gap is not correct. See ADJUSTMENTS  .
NOTE: Proper adjustment of throttle valve switch is important.
  3. If gap is too large, engine will surge with lean condition. If gap is too small, cold engine will stall at full throttle acceleration. Warm engine will have no deceleration fuel shut-off if gap is too small.
