Test conditions
- Vehicle stationary
- On vehicles with automatic transmission selector lever in "P" or "N" position
- All fuses must be OK.
- All electrical consumers, e.g. lights and rear window defogger must be switched off.
- The battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V.
- Intake air temperature less than 80 ° C display group 04, display zone 4
- Coolant temperature between 60 and 80 ° C display group 04, display zone 3
- The catalyst temperature must be at least 350 ° , Display group 34, display zone 2
- Coolant temperature must be at least 60 ° C, display group 04, display zone 3.
Indicated on display:

- Run engine at idling speed until specification "EVAP OK" is displayed in display zone 4.
If the display does not indicate as described:
- Check DTC memory → DTC memory (functions 02 and 05), checking and erasing .
If the display indicates as described:
- Press C key.
Work step 8: Diagnosis of oxygen sensor operational readiness after catalyst
Indicated on display:

- Maintain speed at 1800...2200 rpm until specification "B1-S2 OK" appears in display zone 2.

- Remove engine speed adjuster VAG1788/10 from accelerator pedal.
- Check DTC memory → DTC memory (functions 02 and 05), checking and erasing .
If the display indicates as described:
- Press C key.
Work step 9: Diagnosis of oxygen sensor aging after catalyst
Indicated on display:

If the display does not indicate as described:
- Remove engine speed adjuster VAG1788/10 from accelerator pedal.
- Check DTC memory → DTC memory (functions 02 and 05), checking and erasing .
If the display indicates as described:

- The bits in display zone 2 will not be set to 1 until the catalyst temperature rises above 350 ° C ( Display group 34, display zone 2).

Work step 11: Oxygen sensor aging diagnosis (cycle duration monitor)

- The diagnosis will only be terminated if the oxygen sensor aging diagnosis is first successfully completed.
