Check Control Module Version

  1. Connect scan tool to DLC. See Figure .
  2. Initiate On Board Diagnostic (OBD). See INITIATING ON BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD)  under RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES.
  3. Switch on ignition.
  4. Press "1" for "Rapid data transfer" node.
  5. Switch on printer with "PRINT" button (warning lamp in button lights up).
  6. Press buttons "0" and "1."
  7. Confirm entry with the "Q" button. The control module identification of the central control module for comfort system (J393), convenience center control unit, will be shown in the VAG 1551 scan tool display:
    • Upper line - Part number of control module system designation (e.g. 03 Conv. cent. CU 0001). A number/letter combination (03 or 6Q, or others) indicate a correct programming of the control module.
    • Lower line - Code number dealer code number (automatically stored in the control module when interrogating the system).
  8. Press right arrow button. The control module identification of the driver's door control module will be shown on the VAG 1551 scan tool display.
  9. Press right arrow button. The control module identification of the passenger's door control module will be shown on the VAG 1551 scan tool display.
  10. Press right arrow button. The control module identification of the rear left door control module will be shown on the VAG 1551 scan tool display.
  11. Press right arrow button. The control module identification of the rear right control module will be shown on the VAG 1551 scan tool display.
  12. Press right arrow button.
    NOTE: If "control module does not answer!" appears in the display, the possible causes can be printed out with the "HELP" button.
    NOTE: If "K wire not switching to B+!" appears in the display, the ignition must be switched on.
    NOTE: If "No signal from control module module!" appears in the display, malfunctions have occurred at the start of or during the program (external interference?).
    NOTE: If "Fault in communication build up" appears in the display, check diagnosis wires as well as voltage supply and ground connection.
  13. Press "0" and "6" to end the output.
  14. Confirm entry with the "Q" button.
  15. Switch off ignition.
  16. Disconnect connector to VAG 1551 scan tool.
