Sensor System For Crash Recognition
Crash sensors respond within a few milliseconds during collisions for the Airbag Control Module -J234- to initiate deployment of restraint systems.
The crash detection sensor system measures the vehicle deceleration, then determines whether the airbags or belt tensioners should be deployed.
Sequence of Events:
- Evaluation of the low frequency "palpable" signs of deceleration
- Measurement of the mid "audible" frequency in the range of 20 kHz (as chassis noise when there is fast deformation of load-bearing structures in the vehicle front end)
- Evaluating both signals and applying a crash algorithm to identify the type of impact
