05 Security Functions: Immobilizer

The 2015 Golf has Immobilizer V. Any adaptations to this Immobilizer system requires an online connection.

For Immobilizer IV, the technician decided what adaptations would be made to Immobilizer components, and in which order. Immobilizer V uses the FAZIT database (vehicle information and central information tool) for Immobilizer management.

A single test plan for adapting the Immobilizer system components replaces the previous decision making options. The Immobilizer V takes all Immobilizer identification and status data and sends it as an encrypted package to the FAZIT database. At this point, FAZIT performs an analysis of the vehicle immobilizer components.

FAZIT decides which components need adaptation or replacement. If several components are affected, FAZIT determines which processes are completed first.

Another feature of Immobilizer V is that all Immobilizer components, including used components from other vehicles, can be adapted as long as they are authorized parts. One exception to this is the programming of a new identity, such as when a new lock set is ordered. If a new identity is required, all components in the vehicle must already be known, or all components must be completely new.
