Overview - Steering Column, Version 2
NOTE:
Always replace self-locking nuts.
Always replace corroded bolts/nuts.
Always replace the bolts and nuts, which are tightened with an additional turn.
- Instrument Panel Crossmember
- Shear Bolt
- Loosening and tightening. Refer to Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module -J764-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VERSION 2 .
- Securing Plate
- For steering column combination switch
- Removing and Installing. Refer to Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module -J764-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VERSION 2 .
- Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module -J764-
- For vehicles with the "keyless access authorization system"
- Removing and Installing. Refer to Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module -J764-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VERSION 2 .
- Steering Lock Housing
- Removing and installing. Refer to STEERING COLUMN SWITCH MODULE .
- Bolt
- 20 Nm
- Replace after removing.
- Note the tightening sequence. Refer to Installing => Tighten the bolts -1 through 4- one after the other to the tightening specification. .
- Bolt
- 20 Nm +90°
- Replace after removing.
- Steering Column
- Note the specifications for handling and transporting the steering column. Refer to STEERING COLUMN, HANDLING AND TRANSPORTING .
- The steering column must be engaged on the instrument panel central tube mounting bracket when installing (assembly aid).
- There are different versions. Refer to the appropriate service information.
