Heater And A/C Unit, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY . .

-- Cover the driver seat and front passenger seat with seat covers.

-- Cover the carpet in the front right and left footwell with a fluid resistant foil and absorbent paper.

-- Place the :VAS6208  under the engine.

-- Drain the cooling system. Refer to COOLANT SYSTEM/COOLANT (CZCA, CZDA, CZTA) , COOLANT SYSTEM/COOLANT (CBPA, CKJA) , COOLANT SYSTEM/COOLANT (CNLA, CRJA) , COOLING SYSTEM/COOLANT (CVCA, CUUA, CUUB, DELA, DEBA, DEJA, DGMA) and COOLANT SYSTEM/COOLANT (CPLA, CPPA, CPKA, CPRA) . .

If Equipped, Remove the Heat Shield

-- Remove the nut -1-.

-- Remove the lock washer -2- and the clip -3-.

-- Loosen the heat shield for the expansion valve -4- from the bulkhead.

-- Clamp off the coolant hoses -2 and 3- with :3094  -1 and 4-.

-- Place the :VAS6208  under the engine.

CAUTION:

The cooling system is under pressure when the engine is warm. Risk of scalding due to hot steam and hot coolant.

Scalding the skin and other parts of the body is possible.

- Wear safety gloves.

- Wear protective eyewear.

- Reduce the pressure by covering the coolant expansion tank cap with a cloth and carefully opening it.

-- Release the connector couplings by lifting the clamps -arrows-.

-- Remove the coolant hoses -1- from the heater core.

-- Connect a suitable hose -A- to the upper connection on the heater core.

-- Hold a suitable container -B- under the lower connection to the heater core -C-.

-- Use a compressed air gun to carefully blow the remaining coolant through the hose -A- out of the heater core and into the container -B-.

Vehicles With Refrigerant R134a 

-- Discharge the refrigerant circuit. Refer to WORKING WITH A/C Service Station (R134a) .

Vehicles With Refrigerant R1234yf 

-- Discharge the refrigerant circuit. Refer to WORKING WITH A/C SERVICE STATION (R1234yf) .

Continuation For Vehicles With An A/C System 

CAUTION:

Danger or frostbite due to refrigerant coming out under pressure.

Frostbite on the skin and other parts of the body is possible.

- Wear safety gloves.

- Wear protective eyewear.

- Extract refrigerant and open the refrigerant circuit immediately.

- If more than 10 minutes elapse after extracting the refrigerant and the refrigerant circuit was not opened, extract the refrigerant again. Evaporation can cause pressure to develop in the refrigerant circuit.

-- Remove the bolts -1-.

-- Carefully remove the refrigerant lines -2 and 4- from the expansion valve -3-.

-- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the :VAS6122  .

-- Remove the condensation water drain. Refer to CONDENSATION WATER DRAIN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Continuation For All Vehicles 

-- Remove the driver side footwell vent. Refer to DRIVER SIDE FOOTWELL VENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the footwell vent on the front passenger side. Refer to FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FOOTWELL VENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the rear footwell vent air ducts. Refer to REAR FOOTWELL VENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the instrument panel. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL .

-- Remove the instrument panel crossmember. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL .

-- Disconnect all of the connectors and wiring harnesses from the heater and A/C unit.

-- Remove the heater and A/C unit -2- from the bulkhead -1- with a second technician and remove it from the vehicle.

-- Drain the remaining coolant over the :VAS6208  .
