Shift Lock

NOTE: Numbers and letters in parenthesis refer to numbers and letters in illustrations. See Figure or Figure .

To prevent inadvertent movement of gear selector lever from position P, cars in certain markets are also equipped with an electrically operated shift lock function which blocks gear selector detent pin (1) in latch segment and locks mechanism in parking position See Figure (A).

To move lever from this position, ignition must be switched on and brake pedal depressed. Switching on ignition while depressing brake pedal activates a solenoid (2) in gear selector unit.

The solenoid locking pin (3) is pressed inward, enabling release button on lever to be pressed on normal manner and another position to be selected. See Figure (B).
