Diagnostic Procedure
NOTE:
DTC can be caused by other problems with throttle unit. If ECM-9150 or ECM-9160 are stored, diagnose these first. In certain specific cases engine must be started and stopped up to three times to determine if fault is permanent or intermittent.
NOTE:
Voltage supply to electronic throttle module must be interrupted to empty memory between each start. Stop voltage supply by removing affected fuse or connector, whichever is easiest depending on engine variant.
- Connect a scan tool and start engine. Perform a symptom and DTC check between each engine start-up. Cancel when symptoms and/or DTCs appear.
- If fault is permanent, read out DTCs with engine running. Check whether ECM-9150 or ECM-9160 are stored. If so, diagnose as necessary and clear fault memory. If fault recurs or if ECM-9150 or ECM-9160 are not present, go to next step.
- Connect a scan tool and turn ignition ON. Read out software number and check that software corresponds to Volvo's latest software. If software number matches one of the following, software is OK. If software does NOT match, updated software must be installed.

- Verify repair after work is complete. Check fault memory. If DTC is no longer present, repair is complete.
