Checking control module and transmission version

CAUTION:

Testing or swapping a control module from another vehicle may have undesirable side effects. The adaptive data in the control module can be over written which can affect the function of the transmission in the vehicle the module is being tested on or when the control module is returned to the original vehicle. It is not definite that the software in the control module is configured for the vehicle it is being swapped to. It is therefore important to check that the software in the transmission control module (TCM) and transmission correspond to the relevant engine type.

Ignition on
Read off the part number (P/N) of the control module (software)
Read off the transmission P/N.
Compare software and transmission P/Ns with engine specifications. Check that these correspond. If the control module or software does not correspond, replace with the correct version.

Select one of the following options:
1. The P/N corresponds, continue fault-tracing
2. The transmission P/N does not correspond
3. The software P/N does not correspond.
