Condition

The fault is permanent.
The control module must be correctly connected.
Use the correct memory cassette for the Volvo Scan Tool (ST).

Possible Source

Low battery voltage.
Open-circuit, short-circuit to ground or short-circuit to supply in the data link connector (DLC) cable.
Open-circuit in data link connector (DLC) power supply, power ground or signal ground.
Defective Volvo Scan Tool (ST), Volvo Scan Tool (ST) adapter or wiring.

NOTE:

If the communication problem only occurs when the car is stationary with the ignition on or when the engine is being started (engine not running), connect a battery charger or extra battery.
