Troubleshooting Using Dice Error Frame Finder

Interference, intermittent faults, wrong messages on CAN-net (chattering modules), ground faults, and loose connections, etc., are examples of faults that can be detected using the tool DiCE Error Frame Finder during troubleshooting. The tool registers fault messages used on the CAN-net. Fault messages may be caused by short intermittent malfunctions on the CAN-net or by a control module sending fault messages. DiCE Error Frame Finder can only be used to detect CAN-faults of intermittent nature. If network does not work, use a multimeter to measure. Typical behavior for DiCE Error Frame Finder when a problem has occurred is that the blue LED flashes several times with short pauses, and then stops and then starts flashing again.

NOTE:

Certain interference may occur without any real fault

  1. Firmwire status, green. When the green light flashes with 4 second intervals DiCE is in fault indication mode.
  2. CAN HS, yellow. When the yellow light flashes or is on constantly there is a data flow on CAN HS.
  3. Fault code indicator, blue. When the blue light flashes with brief flashes DiCE indicates that there are fault code signals on CAN LS or CAN HS.
  4. CAN LS, red/orange. When the red/orange light flashes or is on constantly there is a data flow on CAN LS.
