Checking the high speed network
The fault source on the bus cable may be a long way from where the check is carried out. Therefore start the check at one end of the cable and work through the bus system methodically until the fault is found.
Information
- To access the bus cable, see approbate Service Manual Section 3, Wiring diagrams.
Check the bus cable. Check for an open-circuit. See Checking wiring and terminals . Remember that the CAN bus is only a communication network. There are no fuses, contact breakers or sensors.
HINT: If the fault is detected before all the following cables have been examined, the following cables need not be checked.
HINT: If possible, measure from the rear of the affected connectors so that they are not damaged.
The following cables and connectors must be examined to localize a open-circuit.
The cable between:
- electronic throttle module terminal #4 and engine control module (ECM) terminal #55A
- electronic throttle module terminal #3 and engine control module (ECM) terminal #37A
- engine control module (ECM) terminal #1B and transmission control module (TCM) terminal #1B
- engine control module (ECM) terminal #13B and transmission control module (TCM) terminal #13B
- transmission control module (TCM) terminal #2B and the ABS control module (brake control module (BCM) terminal #15
- transmission control module (TCM) terminal #14B and the ABS control module (brake control module (BCM) terminal #11
- There is no transmission control module (TCM) when there is a manual transmission. Therefore the following cables must be checked:
engine control module (ECM) terminal #1B and the ABS control module (brake control module (BCM) terminal #15.
engine control module (ECM) terminal #13B and the ABS control module (brake control module (BCM) terminal #11
- central electronic module (CEM) terminal #18B and ABS control module (brake control module (BCM) terminal #15 and intermediate connector 54/3R
- central electronic module (CEM) terminal #17B and ABS control module (brake control module (BCM) terminal #11 and intermediate connector 54/3R
- the central electronic module (CEM) terminal #18B and the Steering wheel Angle Sensor Module (SAS) terminal #15A
- the central electronic module (CEM) terminal #17B and the Steering wheel Angle Sensor Module (SAS) terminal #6A
-
NOTE:
Applies for the S60AWD and XC90.
- the central electronic module (CEM) terminal #18B and the control module for four wheel drive (AOC) terminal #7A
- the central electronic module (CEM) terminal #17B and the control module for four wheel drive (AOC) terminal #8A.
Applies only to automatic transmission.
