Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ECM-982A is stored if the engine control module (ECM) registers an internal fault. If other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are stored in the engine control module (ECM), these must be remedied first. These may have caused this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) to be stored.

Substitute Value 

• Cruise control is shut off
• Throttle closure when braking
• Torque limiting through fuel shut-off.

Possible Source 

• Other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored in the engine control module (ECM)
• Defective engine control module (ECM).

Fault symptom[s] 

• Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit
• Cruise control does not function at all
• The engine jerks during acceleration
• The engine shudders heavily after engine braking
• Uneven idle
• Maximum engine speed (RPM) too low.
